User Manual

The Saturn 4 Ultra 16K is a masked stereolithography (MSLA) resin printer. Instead of melting filament, it uses a 10-inch 16K monochrome LCD to project 405 nm UV light through a vat of liquid photopolymer resin, curing each layer as a whole image. The result is extremely fine detail and smooth surfaces that filament (FDM) printers can't match.

What it's good for

This printer excels at small, highly detailed parts: tabletop miniatures and figurines, jewelry masters and casting patterns, dental-style and anatomical models, display pieces, small product prototypes, and parts with fine text, textures, or thin features. Layer lines are practically invisible at normal viewing distances.

It is less suited to large parts (the build area is roughly 8.3 × 4.7 × 8.7 inches) or tough functional parts, since most standard resins are more brittle than FDM plastics. Every print also requires washing and UV curing afterward, so plan extra time for post-processing.

Notable features

• Tilt-release printing — the vat tilts to peel each layer off the film, reducing stress on the print and allowing speeds up to 150 mm/h.
• Heated resin vat — keeps resin at about 30 °C for consistent flow and layer adhesion, even in a cool room.
• Self-leveling build plate — no manual leveling; the plate locks in with a single handle.
• Built-in sensors — checks resin level (must be between 1/3 full and the MAX line) and detects leftover debris in the vat before a print starts.
• AI camera — lets you watch prints remotely, record time-lapses (models over 50 mm tall), and flag problems such as warping or detachment on taller prints (over 100 mm).
• USB and Wi-Fi — send sliced files by USB drive (FAT32) or over the network from the slicer.

Key safety tips

• Wear PPE whenever resin is involved. Nitrile gloves (latex is not sufficient), safety glasses, and closed-toe shoes. Uncured resin is a skin sensitizer — repeated contact can cause a lasting allergy.
• Run the air filter. The printer is not vented. Turn the air filter on before opening the cover or handling resin, and leave it on until all resin is sealed away. If you can still smell resin strongly, stop and tell a volunteer.
• Know the first aid. Skin contact: remove gloves and wash with soap and water for 15 minutes. Eye contact: flush at the eyewash station for 15+ minutes and seek medical attention.
• Emergency stop: turn off the power switch or unplug the printer at the wall.
• Never pour liquid resin down the drain or in the trash. Resin-soaked towels, gloves, and failed prints must be cured under UV before disposal in the resin waste bin.
• Resin and IPA are flammable. Keep them away from heat, sparks, and direct sunlight.
• Don't stare at the UV light. The 405 nm light can harm your eyes; keep the cover closed while printing.
• Protect the machine. Never fill past the MAX line (the tilting vat can spill resin onto the LCD), use only plastic scrapers near the vat, and don't touch the printer during its self-check.
• Handle prints with gloves until they are washed and fully cured.
• Don't leave prints fully unattended, and report any spill, damage, cloudy/scratched film, or malfunction in SLACK before you leave.
