Anycubic Photon Mono Manual

The Photon Mono 2 is a compact MSLA (masked stereolithography) resin printer. Instead of melting plastic filament, it builds parts from liquid photopolymer resin: a UV light shines up through a 6.6" high-resolution LCD that masks each layer, curing that layer's shape all at once onto an aluminum build plate that lifts the part out of the resin vat.

The result is extremely fine detail and smooth surfaces that a filament (FDM) printer can't match. With an XY resolution of about 34 microns (roughly half the width of a human hair), layer lines are nearly invisible on most models.

What it's great for

  • Tabletop miniatures, figurines, and busts
  • Jewelry masters, small sculptures, and cosplay details
  • Small, precise prototypes and fit-check parts
  • Models with fine text, textures, or sharp edges

Things to know before you plan a project

  • Small build area. Parts must fit within a 143 × 89 mm footprint and 165 mm tall. Larger models need to be split or hollowed.
  • Print time depends on height, not part count. Each layer is cured all at once, so filling the plate with several parts takes about as long as printing one. Typical prints run from 30 minutes to several hours.
  • Most models need supports. Photon Workshop can add them automatically; plan for some cleanup where supports attach.
  • Post-processing is required. Every print must be washed in IPA and UV-cured at the Wash & Cure station before it can be handled bare-handed. Uncured prints are sticky, weak, and a skin irritant.
  • Material properties depend on the resin. Standard resin is detailed but more brittle than PLA. It is not food-safe.

Workflow at a glance

Model (STL/OBJ) → slice in Anycubic Photon Workshop (installed on the makerspace workstation; free to install at home) → export .pm2 file to USB drive → print → wash in IPA → UV cure.

⚠ Key safety tips

  • Wear nitrile gloves and safety glasses any time you handle liquid resin, resin-coated tools, or an uncured print. Resin is a skin and eye irritant and can cause skin sensitization with repeated exposure.
  • Turn the air filter on before removing the printer cover or opening any resin, and leave it running 10–15 minutes after you finish cleaning up.
  • If resin gets on your skin, wash with soap and water for at least 5 minutes. In your eyes, rinse with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
  • Never fill the vat past the MAX line. Resin overflowing onto the LCD can permanently damage the printer.
  • No metal tools in the vat. Use plastic or silicone scrapers only — metal scratches the FEP film.
  • Liquid or tacky resin never goes in the trash. Cure resin-soaked towels, gloves, and supports under UV until solid first.
  • No food or drink near the printer, and keep the UV-blocking cover on while printing.

Checkout requirements

A volunteer checkout is required before using this printer. Because every print must be washed and cured, the separate Wash & Cure Station checkout is also required before your first print.
